How Fairly works

Fairly answers one question: what is the cheapest way to play this game. It compares stores, key marketplaces, and subscriptions on the price you actually pay at checkout.

How we make money

Fairly does not sell games. You click through to a store, you pay there, and some stores pay us a commission on the sale. Some store links are affiliate links. We earn a commission on purchases and your price never changes. Ranking is by price, never by commission.

Steam and the console stores have no affiliate programme. They are listed and ranked the same way as every other store. There are no ads and no paid placement.

How we rank

The default order is the real price, lowest first. The real price is the list price plus the fees a store adds at checkout.

  • At the same real price, an authorized store is listed above a marketplace.
  • A marketplace goes above an authorized store only when it is at least 1 EUR cheaper (or the equivalent in your currency).
  • Commission is never an input. Ranking, badges, and the cheapest way to play ignore it, and a test fails if a commission change moves a row.

Store types

  • Authorized: the publisher's own store or an authorized reseller. The key is covered by the store's guarantee.
  • Marketplace: keys sold by third-party sellers. Often cheaper, with no store guarantee. Marked with a grey badge and hidden by default.
  • Console: PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, Nintendo eShop. Prices are for the console edition.
  • Subscription: Game Pass, PS Plus, EA Play, Ubisoft+. Shown when a subscription includes the game, with the day it leaves the catalog.

Real prices

Some stores add a fee at checkout, such as payment fees or taxes. We measure those rules weekly. A price marked may apply or stale has a fee we could not confirm recently. If a price looks wrong, use Report a price.

Data age

Every price shows when it was fetched. Prices are cached for up to 15 minutes. A source older than 24 hours is labelled as possibly outdated, and older than 72 hours it is hidden. Every API response carries fetched_at and data_age_seconds.

Store objections and scraping

We follow each site's robots.txt. Where a store's terms forbid scraping, we use its affiliate feed only and read no HTML. If a store objects in writing, we turn off its source within 24 hours.

Cookies

No tracking cookies, so there is no cookie banner. Analytics are cookieless. One first-party preference cookie remembers your region and currency. Details are in the privacy policy.
